Texas A&M International Ruins SU's Home Opener

Visiting Texas A&M International used a three goal outburst in the first half to take command of their match with Schreiner.  TAMUI, an NCAA Division II (scholarship) program, won the match 5-1.

The Dustdevils (1-3) scored three minutes into the match to go ahead 1-0.  Schreiner (0-2) answered right back at the 17 minute mark of the first half on sophomore Kaitlyn Moore's goal (assist to sophomore Alyssa Fordyce) to even the score at one apiece.  It was the remaining 28 minutes of the first half that the Schreiner defense would like to forget.  TAMUI scored three times during the span and were comfortably ahead 4-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Schreiner put in a much-more inspired defensive effort and controlled the action for a good part of the half.  Still, the team couldn't hit the back of the net.  Texas A&M International added one more goal midway through the second half and that completed the scoring.  The injury bug continues to hurt Schreiner as only 12 players started the match.  One player was injured in the first half and didn't return.  When senior Stephanie Crane started suffering from leg cramps and had to leave the match in the second half, the Mountaineers played the rest of the way with only 10 players.  Fortunately, none of the injuries is considered serious and SU should add a couple other players who've been out with minor injuries as the team plays three matches this week.  SU's senior goalkeeper, Susan Burger, who had never played goalkeeper in college prior to last week, had 10 saves against the five goals allowed.  Freshman Alix Aderman led the Mountaineers with two shots in the match.
