Huston-Tillotson scored the game-winning goal with
40 seconds remaining the double overtime to edge
Schreiner, 2-1. The NAIA (scholarship) Lady
Rams had their hands full throughout the match with
the injury-depleted Mountaineers (0-3).
At halftime, the two teams were locked in a
scoreless tie. HTU scored in the second half
to take a 1-0 lead but SU was able to answer with a
tying goal off the foot of sophomore Alyssa Fordyce.
It was Fordyce's first goal and took the match into
extra periods. Schreiner had more scoring
chances and controlled the match.
Neither team could score in the first extra period
and it was beginning to look like the match would
end in a 1-1 tie but the Lady Rams managed to get
the game winner in the waning seconds.
Schreiner has little time to recoup as the
Mountaineers begin ASC play tomorrow in Kerrville
against perennial ASC power Texas Lutheran.
Schreiner hopefully will begin getting some of its
injured players back next week but continues to play
solid defense and has been very competitive with
scholarship programs so far in the young season. |
