Rough Weekend for
Mountaineers' WS
Schreiner had a less than pleasant experience in
their first conference road trip of the season,
losing at both Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The trip started off with a trip to Brownwood for
the match at HPU (2-3, 1-0 in ASC). Howard
Payne jumped on top eight minutes into the match,
1-0, and added a second goal midway through the
first half to take a 2-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Howard Payne established control
with two goals in the first 10 minutes. New SU
head coach Wayne Hinkley substituted goalkeepers at
that point, down 4-0. Freshman Stephanie
Hoskins (6 saves) was replaced by freshman Mindy
Maulkin. Howard Payne took advantage with one
goal in the first minute. Mauldin settled
down, allowing one more goal, and then halted the
scoring at that point. Schreiner's sophomore
Natalie White scored a goal to make it 5-1, off an
assist by Kaitlyn Moore. The final was 6-1 in
favor of the home team.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers (0-5, 0-3 in ASC) had
to come back again at Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-2, 2-0
in ASC). This match did not go well for the
visitors. UMHB scored three goals in the first
23 minutes of action. Again, Hinkley
substituted Mauldin (9 saves) for Hoskins, but
neither goalkeeper could avoid the pressure of
UMHB's offensive unit. Down 6-0 with less than
10 minutes remaining, UMHB kept pouring it on -
scoring four goals in the match's final minutes -
for a 10-0 win.
Schreiner travels to Southwestern this Friday to
play a non-conference match before returning to ASC
action next week. |
