Southwestern Wins
Handily at Home
Southwestern managed only 13 shots on goal, but
scored seven times on those shots to record a
deceptive 7-0 home win over Schreiner Women's
Soccer. Schreiner can take solace in the
fact that it held the 4-2-1 Lady Pirates somewhat in
check. SU is attempting to do it's best with
its goalkeeping situation and added a player to the
mix for this match.
Sophomore Jenn Gamez, who hasn't suited up for a
match yet this fall, did so and played in goal to
start the match. She had three saves, but
Southwestern took advantage of her diminutive size
and scored four times by going over her head.
Senior Susan Burger, a much taller player, came in
at halftime and also had three saves but was tagged
with three goals. SU has also used two other
freshmen in goal this fall, but both have battled
injuries.
Schreiner did manage five shots in the match and
were led by sophomores Danni Gomez and Kaitlyn Moore
with two each. All in all, it was a much
better performance for the Mountaineers (0-7).
Schreiner has one week to rest and recoup before
heading to east Texas for its next matches. |
