SU Can't Convert Early Chances, Lose 4-0

attempt away vs. LeTourneau
Despite only having 11 healthy players, Schreiner
controlled the action early but couldn't convert
three great scoring opportunities. Visiting
LeTourneau (4-7, 2-4 in ASC) regrouped and made good
on two chances later in the opening half and that
deflated the tired, overworked Mountaineers.
SU played better in the second half but couldn't
mount enough of an attack and lost 4-0. The
Yellow Jackets' Kirby Posey had three goals in the
match and assisted on the fourth goal.
Schreiner had six players sitting on the bench with
injuries and barely had enough players to field a
team. Still, it was the home team who
controlled the action early. Three times in
the first seven minutes of action, Schreiner players
had a chance to get on top in the match. With
both teams coming into the match struggling for a
win, that early goal could have been just what head
coach Wayne Hinkley and his squad needed to get it
over the hump. Unfortunately, SU
went 0-3 on the attempts. LeTourneau was more
efficient early and took the lead and momentum and
fatigue took over for the Mountaineers.
Danni Gomez and Susan Burger each had two shots on
goal during the match to lead SU. Burger was
struggling with calf problems and Kellye Nation had
to come off the field for a time after being hit in
the mouth, leaving Schreiner less than full
strength. |
