Two late goals allowed visiting Hardin-Simmons to
remain unbeaten in ASC play with a 4-0 win over
Schreiner at Mountaineer Field. With less than
10 minutes remaining, Schreiner trailed only 2-0
against the top-ranked team in the ASC.
Hardin-Simmons scored nearly thirty minutes into the
first half to take a 1-0 lead. That was all
the scoring that took place in the first half.
More than two-thirds of the way through the match,
SU (0-15-1, 0-11-1 in ASC) still was down that one
goal. The Lady Cowgirls (12-3-3, 11-0-1 in
ASC) scored a second goal with 25 minutes remaining
to double their lead.
The two late goals were insurance that there would
be no upset. SU freshman goalkeeper Stephanie
Hoskins had six saves in the loss.
Saturday is Schreiner's final match and is Senior
Day for Mountaineer seniors Stephanie Crane, Susan
Burger and Alcie Rivera. SU plays visiting
McMurry, the other winless team in the ASC.
With a win, SU would finish in the same place in the
ASC that they were in last year - the year prior to
new head coach Wayne Hinkley's arrival. SU has
had to deal with a rash of injuries which have
decimated the team throughout the year and often has
left the squad with a severely depleted bench.
