Schreiner
Slams Visiting TLU, 7-2
Photo: Sophomore Michelle Martinez serves
in her match at #1 singles. She won in
straight sets.
Schreiner broke
back into the winning column with a solid 7-2
drubbing of visiting Texas Lutheran at the George
and Frances Cree Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 1-3 in ASC
competition.
The Mountaineers started well in doubles action.
Sophomores Michelle Martinez and Andrea Da Silva
quickly polished off the Lady Bulldogs #1 doubles
team, 8-3. Senior Stephanie Reed and freshman
Lynne Collenback were not so fortunate, losing their
match at #2 doubles, 8-5. SU won the #3
doubles point when TLU couldn't field a team.
In singles action, Schreiner took control by winning
the first four singles matches. Martinez won
6-2, 6-1 at #1 singles. Reed cruised, 6-4, 6-0
at #2. Da Silva won convincingly, 6-3, 6-1.
At #4, Collenback won her match, 6-1, 6-3. By
that point, SU had already claimed the match.
Schreiner's Kathy Bryson won her match at #6
singles, by default.
Schreiner will travel to Abilene the next two days
for matches at Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.
