TX...It was announced today by the American Southwest Conference
that three Mountaineers received All-West Division honors.
Freshman,
Emiliana Patlan (San
Antonio/O'Connor HS) was the top award winner, collecting both West
Division "Newcomer of the Year" and All-West Division Honorable
Mention. Patlan's teammates,
Jenna Kempf
(Blanco/Blanco HS) and
Allison Staley (Marion/Marion HS) both received All-West
Division Second Team honors.
Patlan played in
all 113 games for the Mountaineers recording team highs in assists
(1232) and service aces (45), along with finishing second in blocks
(69), and fourth in digs (213).
Kempf, the lone
senior on the Mountaineers 2003 squad, was the team leading in digs
(320), while finishing second in kills (385) and service aces (41),
and fourth in hitting percentage (.188). This is Kempf's third
straight season to receive All-West Second Team.
Staley, a
two-time All-West Second Team honoree, led the Mountaineer's front
line by recording team highs in kills (417), hitting percentage
(.231) and blocks (84).
The Mountaineers
finished their 2003 season with a overall record of 10-20 and a
conference record of 5-14 giving them a seventh place finish in the
ASC West. |

Southwest Conference West title Friday night with a 3-0 (16-30,
22-30, 25-30) win over the Mountaineers (10-17/5-12).

(Blanco/Blanco HS) had team highs with nine kills and 10 digs.
Allison Staley (Marion/Marion HS) had eight kills and two blocks.
Freshman,
Emiliana Patlan (San Antonio/O'Connor HS), had 22 assists to go
with her three service aces. Patlan entered the match atop the ASC
in assists with 1,159 total assists and averaging 11.71 assists per
game.
The Mountaineers
will travel to Alpine next weekend to play Sul Ross at 11:00 am on
November 1st.

Kerrville, TX...On Friday, October
17th, the Mountaineers swept Hardin-Simmons in three games on their
home court. The first game’s score was 30-27 followed by another
close win of 30-28. The third game was a battle until the end when
the Mountaineers pulled two points ahead to win the game 31-29.
Whitney Barron (Richmond/Foster HS)
had a team high of 13 digs followed by
Emily Patlan (San
Antonio/O’Connor HS) who had 11.
Allison Staley (Marion/Marion HS)
pounded out a high of 14 kills, and
Jenna Kempf (Blanco/Blanco HS)
was behind her with 11 kills. Patlan helped her team with 39
assists.
Saturday afternoon at the Edington
Center, the Mountaineers took a loss to conference leader, McMurry
University. The Mountaineers fell 16-30 in the first game and 19-30
in the second. In the third game, the ladies kept their spirits
alive and fought for a 23-30 loss.
Rose Gerstenberger (Freer/Freer HS)
led her team with 12 digs, and Kempf came in second with seven digs.
Kempf held the team high for kills with 10 joined by Staley with
eight. Setter Emily Patlan led her team with 28 assists.
The Mountaineers will close out
their home schedule this Tuesday, against Concordia at 7:00 pm in
the Edington Center. |

the second game, to beat the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons University
(3-17/3-7) in three straight, 30-27, 30-28, 31-29.

pounding out 16 kills, followed by Allison Staley's (Marion/Marion

Defensively, the Mountaineers were

offense in its five-game non-conference win over Huston-Tillotson
and salvage a 1-1 week for the Mountaineers. Barron also recorded a
team-high 15 digs against HTC. |

volleyball team (5-9/1-3) fell to McMurry University 3-1 (17-30,
21-30, 30-27, 27-30).
Allison

Amanda Sinders (Round Rock/Leander HS) all had season highs in kills
and digs. Staley pounded out 29 kills, while Kempf collected
30 digs followed by Sinders' 25.
On Friday night the Mountaineers
fell to Hardin-Simmons (1-10/1-3) 3-2 (23-30, 30-25, 20-30, 31-29,
11-15).
Kempf and Staley each
recorded 15 and 14 kills, respectively.
The Mountaineers will be traveling
to Austin next week to take on Concordia and Huston-Tillotson. |

Volleyball team (3-5/0-0) opens conference with a home match
against Sul Ross State (6-3/0-0) at 6:00.
Over the weekend the Mountaineers
went 1-3 while competing in the Austin College Invitational. On
Friday the Mountaineers fell victim to host team Austin College
losing in three straight games (30-16, 30-27, 30-17).
Leading the
offense for the Mountaineers was senior,
Jenna Kempf,
(Blanco/Blanco HS) with 12 kills. She was joined by junior,
Allison Staley,
(Marion/Marion HS) with eight kills. Assisting the offense was
freshman Emiliana Patlan
(San Antonio/O’Connor HS) who dished out 28 assists.
Defensively,
freshman, Whitney Barron,
(Richmond/Foster HS) collected 12 digs on the back row for the
Mountaineers. Kempf and Staley added nine and six digs,
respectively.
Following the
loss to Austin College, the Mountaineers took on the Tornadoes of
Concordia-Austin and fell in five games 3-2 (20-30, 30-17, 30-27,
31-33, 15-9).
For the second
match in a row, Staley and Kempf led the Mountaineers in kills
with 18 and 16, respectively. Patlan added 48 assists with Barron
and Kempf notching 11 digs each.
Saturday, the
Mountaineers fell to Sul Ross State 3-2 (25-30, 30-27, 30-17,
28-30, 15-13) with Kempf adding a solid performance with team
highs in kills (19) and digs (21).
Patlan tossed
out 44 assists to go along with her four service aces. Barron and
freshman Amanda Sinders
(Leander/Round Rock HS) held their own on the back row with 14 and
13 digs respectively.
In their last
match of the tournament the Mountaineers found victory sweeping
LeTourneau 3-0 (30-12, 30-24, 30-18).

TX...After winning their first two matches this past weekend in
the University of Dallas Volleyball Extravaganza versus Sul Ross
State 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-28) and Hendrix College 3-1 (20-30,
30-23, 30-20, 30-17), the Lady Mountaineers dropped their final
two matches against Wheaton College (MA) 3-2 (30-26, 30-28,22-30,
29-31, 11-15) and host team University of Dallas 3-2 (30-20,
30-28, 21-30, 30-18, 15-10).
In their first
match of the year, the Lady Mountaineers swept ASC West opponent
Sul Ross State the offense was led by senior

(Medina/Medina HS) and sophomore
Melissa Pechacek
(Laguna Visa/Green Mountain College) each pounded out 12 kills.
Lending a hand to the Lady Mountaineer front line was freshman

Following their
victory over Sul Ross State, the Lady Mountaineers tallied their
second win of the 2003 season when they lined up against Arkansas
native Hendrix College. Junior
Allison Staley
stepped up the offense for Schreiner with 14 kills.
Kempf tossed in
another solid hitting performance with 11 kills along with a team
high 12 digs.
Barron and
freshman Amanda Sinders
(Round Rock/Leander HS) and Barron both chipped in 10 digs each.
In the four game match
Patlan collected 35 assist.
During the
second day of the two day tournament, the Lady Mountaineers found
themselves traveling a tough road when they dropped a five game
match against Wheaton College out of Massachusetts.
Patlan tossed out 37
assist with 19 of those going to Staley who once again put up a
team high in kills followed by
Kempf with 12.
During their back row play
Barron,
Kempf, and
Sinders had 17, 15,
and 14 digs respectively.
In the
finale the Crusaders of University of Dallas fought back from a
2-0 deficit to give the Lady Mountaineers their second straight
loss and second loss of the year.
Kempf finished off a
good tournament with team highs in kills (14) and digs (26).
Staley also had an evenly balanced match with 12 kills and 16
digs. On the defensive side again was
Sinders with 18
digs and Barron with 11.
Patlan finished the
match with 40 assist. |

Volleyball - September 5th
|
|
Kerrville, TX ...Friday marks
the opening day for the Schreiner volleyball program as they travel
to Irving to participate in the University of Dallas Invitational.
The Mountaineers will play two games on Friday versus ASC West
opponent Sul Ross at 10:00 am and then take on Arkansas native
Hendrix College at noon.
Saturday’s match-ups will
include games against Wheaton College of Massachusetts at 4:00 pm
followed by the host team University of Dallas at 6:00 pm.

Filling the
cracks
Coming off
their worst season in many years, the Mountaineers have enlisted
the help of many new faces to upgrade their offense while also
renovating the defensive side of the net. Joining the offensive
rotation for the Mountaineers are freshman setter
Emiliana Patlan (San
Antonio/O’Connor HS) and outside hitter
Jana Hagel
(Victoria/Industrial HS). Defensively, the additions of
Whitney Barron
(Richmond/Foster HS) and
Amanda Sinders
(Round Rock/Leander HS) will fill the voids in last year’s
defensive line.
Veteran Leadership
Helping the
seven freshmen make the transition from high school to college is
senior Jenna Kempf
(Blanco/Blanco HS) and juniors
Allison Staley
(Marion/Marion HS) and
Megon Bogler (Medina/Medina HS). Returning as one of the
leading hitters for the ASC in 2002,
Kempf’s senior
leadership will be noticed as she anchors the front line for the
Mountaineers. Staley
and Bogler, the two
tallest players on the roster, will fill up the middle for the
Mountaineers.
Calling the road
home
The
Mountaineers will be on the road for their first eight games
before returning home to host Sul Ross in their first home match
of the year on September 14th
at 6: pm. After opening the season at the University of
Dallas Tournament, the Mountaineers will spend a weekend in
Sherman as they compete in the Austin College Invitational
Tournament. |
