Errors Costly as SU Routed at Texas A&M
International
Texas A&M
International took advantage of eight Schreiner
errors in scoring a 15-5 win at Laredo.
The Mountaineers (3-1) were coming off a weekend
sweep of NCAA Division II UT-Permian Basin in
which SU pitching allowed only five earned runs
over three games. In this game, the
combination of the errors and 11 walks by four
SU pitchers - all seeing their first action of
the season - proved SU's undoing.
The first inning was the low point as Schreiner
had four errors and allowed three walks and gave
TAMUI a 4-0 lead that the home team would not
relinquish. Through three innings, SU
trailed 5-0 without allowing a hit.
The Mountaineers rallied with three runs over
the fifth and sixth innings to cut the deficit
to 8-3 but any chance of a comeback was snuffed
out when the home team added six runs in the
seventh.
Offensively, the Mountaineers were paced by
Thomas Cable, Johnny Huizar and Richard Sanchez
who each had two hits. Sanchez hit his
first home run of the season.
