CUA Jumps Ahead Early and Cruises to Win
Concordia-Austin
(10-8, 1-0 in ASC) scored six runs in the fourth
inning and added eight more in the fifth and
cruised to a 14-7 win over Schreiner.
Sophomore starter Chris Armijo (3-1) cruised
through three innings before running into
trouble in the fourth. Junior Bernard Pena,
who pitched a complete game no-hitter vs. NCAA
Division II Texas A&M International in his
previous outing, also had a tough time when he
came in in relief of Armijo.
Although down 14-0 after 4-1/2 innings, the
Mountaineers chipped away at the lead. SU
(12-4, 0-1 in ASC) scored four in the eighth and
two more in the ninth but couldn't overcome the
deficit. Sophomore Richard Sanchez led the
Mountaineers with three hits in four at-bats.
Freshman Eric Crenwelge had two hits and four
RBI. Senior Jeremiah Kester cooled off
slightly from his recent torrid hitting spree
but still had two hits. |
