Baseball Takes 2-of-3 at East Texas Baptist
Schreiner's top two starting pitchers kept their
records perfect with wins at East Texas Baptist
this weekend. Colton Hermes improved to
4-0 by allowing only one run in seven innings in
a 8-1 route on Saturday. Chris Armijo ran
his record to 3-0 by pitching eight innings and
allowing only four earned runs in a 7-5 win in
the series' first game. Chase Kimball
pitched one inning in relief and earned his
second save. In the series finale, SU had
some defensive lapses in the seventh inning
which allowed ETBU to rally from a 9-2 deficit
and win in 11 innings, 11-10.
In the series
opener, SU's top of the lineup (Jeremiah Kester,
Eric Crenwelge and Thomas Cable) each had two
hits to pace the Mountaineer attack. Matt
Langston also had two hits and scored four runs.
The Mountaineers (12-3) broke a 2-2 tie in the
top of the sixth and then added two more in the
seventh and eighth to get the victory.
In game #2, Kester
and Cable again had two hits each with Kester
getting two RBI. That was more than enough
offense as Hermes' stout pitching performance
shut down the home team. SU broke the game
open with three runs each in the fourth and
fifth innings.
In the final game, Schreiner broke on top again
but ETBU rallied to tie the game at 2-2.
Single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings
gave the Mountaineers some breathing room.
The game appeared over after SU scored five runs
in the seventh but ETBU posted three unearned
runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth.
Schreiner tied the game in the top of the ninth
but ETBU pushed a run across in the bottom of
the eleventh for the lone victory of the
weekend. Kevin Jones started the final
game and allowing only three earned runs in
nearly seven innings of work. |
