Hermes Named Freshman of the Year in ASC West
A total of 13 Schreiner Baseball players earned
All-ASC honors for their play during the
recently-completed 2007 season. Leading
the list was freshman starting pitcher,
Colton Hermes,
who was named Freshman of the Year in the ASC
West Division. Hermes was among the
national leaders in wins and had a 7-3 record.
He was third in wins in the ASC and fourth in
innings pitched (77-2/3).
Of the other
Schreiner award winners, the biggest surprise
was that senior
Jeremiah Kester
didn't get a higher recognition. He was
again among the ASC leaders in batting average
(10th - .399), on base percentage (2nd - .517)
and just missed the top 15 in hits (57) yet
received only honorable mention recognition.
His 29 RBI and 22 steals also led the
Mountaineers.
Other
Mountaineers earning honorable mention All-ASC
honors were seniors
Thomas Cable
(1B),
Jordan Anders
(C) and
Chase Kimball
(SS & relief pitcher); junior
Matt Langston
(OF) and
Kevin Jones
(starting pitcher); sophomores
Johnny Huizar
(2B),
Ray Martinez
(3B) and
Richard Sanchez
(OF); and freshmen
Eric Wehmeyer
(relief pitcher) and
Matt Tomasello
(DH).
Cable had the
team in doubles and second in RBI. Kimball
was among the ASC leaders in saves with three.
Sanchez was second on the team in batting
average. |
