Saturday
Schreiner starting pitcher Colton Hermes was
selected as the ASC West Division Pitcher of the
Week for last week's action. The junior
left-hander from Hallettsville, TX
(Hallettsville HS) was dominant in a 13-0
shutout win over fellow ASC West team Sul Ross
State.
Hermes went eight innings, striking out 11 and
allowing only five hits and four walks.
That was the second strong outing in a row for
Hermes. The week prior, he gave SU a seven
inning complete game win as the Mountaineers
beat Howard Payne, 4-1. In that game, he
also scattered five hits and struck out five.
His year-to-date stats are a 2-2 record with a
team-best 5.88 ERA.
Senior Ray Martinez was also under consideration
for POW honors. The second baseman from
Boerne (Boerne HS) went 6-for-11, with two
doubles and two walks, over a four game stretch
- all wins for SU. The second double was
the game winning in the bottom of the ninth on
Sunday when the Mountaineers won 4-3 to complete
the series sweep of the Lobos.
