McMurry's Bats
Get Best of SU in Series Opener
Defending ASC Champion McMurry pounded out 25
runs and 24 hits and took the opening game of
their weekend series with Schreiner, 25-6.
The two teams play a doubleheader tomorrow at
Mountaineer Field in Kerrville.
McMurry (5-5 in ASC) started quickly against SU
starting pitcher Roger Ayala getting three runs
in both the first and second innings.
Senior Ray Martinez led off the bottom of the
first with a triple and scored on sophomore
Oscar Ibieta's sacrifice grounder to get SU on
the board. Ayala gave way to sophomore
Eric Wehmeyer in the third inning but McM's bats
stayed hot as the visitors added five more runs
and SU would not be able to recover.
McMurry scored two runs in the fourth as
Schreiner (6-4 in ASC) made more pitching
changes and added five more runs in the fifth
off two more SU pitchers.
The Mountaineers scored five runs in the bottom
of the seventh. Martinez again started it
off, this time with a walk. Sophomore J.P.
Garcia pinch hit and delivered an RBI double and
then scored on an error. Freshman Korey
Rose and Roger Chavez each also delivered
doubles back-to-back. Sophomore Michael
Houser added an RBI double one out later and
scored on junior Eric Crenwelge's single.
Martinez led SU with three hits in four at-bats.
Ayala (4-1) took the loss. |
