Mountaineer Update

from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
November 20, 2007

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to you all,

The winter sports season began last weekend and our first home contests are this Saturday. This Saturday's home openers will be against UT-Dallas. The Comets should again contend for the ASC East Division title in both women's and men's competition so the Mountaineers face a stern test right out of the gate. Before the games, there also will be a free basketball clinic for area children from 9-11 am in Edington Gym. More information can be found on the athletics website (http://athletics.schreiner.edu) Here's a quick look at last Friday's game and a schedule of this Saturday's ASC openers for the Women's and Men's Basketball teams:

MEN'S BASKETBALL: lost at St. Mary's 46-95. Schreiner struggled against the nationally-ranked NCAA Division II Rattlers. St. Mary's started the game on a 15-0 run and controlled the game throughout. Freshman Riley Battle led all SU scorers with 11 points. Fellow freshman David Flannery contributed 8 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench and sophomore Corey Tellis came in and added 5 assists for the Mountaineers. Schreiner started three freshmen, one sophomore and one senior in the opening game of the season and the first for new SU head coach Drew Miller.
