Welcome Back, Schreiner Students, Faculty & Staff,
We hope you all have had a great summer and are glad to have you back on campus. We're looking forward to a great year and have a lot of changes and new faces this fall. Five of our six fall sport head coaches will be in their first year at SU and both of our athletic trainers are also new to Schreiner University. We look for big things both in the classroom and on the fields of competition from Schreiner teams this fall and beyond.
Women's Soccer, with new head coach Wayne Hinkley, is the first team to start its season as the Mountaineers travel to San Antonio to take on Our Lady of the Lake, an NAIA scholarship program, Friday (tomorrow). The Men's Soccer team looks to bounce back strong from a difficult 2007 season and start their season Saturday with a road match at Our Lady of the Lake. Men's Cross Country, under new head coach Dorsey Jack Reirdon, travels to its first meet, the Incarnate Word Relay on Saturday as well.
Our first home match is Sunday when Schreiner Volleyball, headed by new head coach Phillip White, plays two matches. The first is at Noon against Our Lady of the Lake and then Schreiner faces the University of Dallas at 4:00 pm. Both matches are in Edington Gym and are free for Schreiner students, faculty and staff. We invite you to come out and support the Mountaineers as they start their season this weekend.
Before listing the schedule of the next week's events, I'd like to go back to last spring and give congratulations to all Schreiner student-athletes for their academic work in the Spring semester. 72 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or better in the Spring and the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes in the semester was a 2.91. Way to go Mountaineers. Keep it going this fall!
