Mountaineer Update

from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
February 3, 2010

Baseball started its season last weekend with a successful game vs. SU Alumni (including many members of the 2000 ASC Championship team) at the newly renovated Mountaineer Field. It was a great day for all including members of the alumni who ultimately suffered a 19-7 loss to our 2010 Mountaineer Baseball team. There is a lot of excitement for our players on baseball and softball due to the upgrades and improvements at the fields thanks to the Mountaineer Center campaign - as there also have been due to upgrades of facilities for our tennis, basketball and soccer teams. The Mountaineers host Trinity this Sunday, weather permitting. Also, this is a big week for SU Basketball as both teams host a pair of games this week. It's also time for both the "Make Change for Change" program where SAAC members of all SU teams are collecting loose change for the charity Phil's Friends, which helps people with cancer. Also Todd's Teddy Bear drive is also kicking off it's annual campaign with toy bears going to kids with cancer in San Antonio area hospitals. Here's the quick outline of last week and this week's schedule:

MEN'S BASKETBALL: lost a pair of road games at Howard Payne (69-76) and at Sul Ross State (72-80. The Mountaineers get a chance for revenge this week as both of these teams come to Edington Center for late-season games.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: also lost a pair of games to #25 HPU and at SRSU.
