Mountaineer Update

from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
December 7, 2011

It's almost time for Finals, so if you are looking for a great way to release some stress, come on out tonight and on Saturday afternoon and cheer on your Mountaineer Basketball teams as they will be in action both days at Edington Center. Schreiner hosts Texas Lutheran tonight and Ozarks on Saturday and both are ASC contests. Tonight's games start at 5:30 pm.

Here's the quick rundown on last week's action:

MEN'S BASKETBALL: lost both games on a two-game road trip, at East Texas Baptist and at Centenary. In both games, second half defense was a problem as both home teams overcame deficits to rally past Schreiner later in the game. Against Centenary, it was the first time that SU didn't have at least two players score 16 or more points. Sophomores Darren Smith, AJ Myres and freshman Travis Pflughaupt were all well below their season averages and hope to warm up at home this week.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: also lost a pair of games at ETBU and at Centenary. The team is struggling to find consistency in all phases of the game, but also is showing great promise. Sophomore Bailey Harris scored 18 points at CC and junior Colby Adolph came off the bench to contribute nine points and nine rebounds, but the Mountaineers struggled to find much else and were badly out-rebounded in the contest.
