from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
April 12, 2012
This will be an abbreviated update. The big news is that our spring sports teams are entering their final days of the 2012 season. This weekend, several sports hold their senior day events where we get a last opportunity to celebrate the athletic careers of soon-to-be-graduating seniors in these sports. Also, the golf and tennis teams end their respective regular seasons over the next week.
One last announcement is students in our IDST classes – along with SAB - are staging a big spirit rally on Friday at both the Softball and Baseball home games.
Here's some information on the event: The Tailgate will begin at 1:00 and last till 3:30. Free cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones. Color War will begin around 4:00 following the baseball game. Color War will consist of: Live music provided by DJ RICH, water balloons, paint balloons, water guns filled with paint/water, paint slip-n-slide and other fun games. ALL THE PAINT IS NON-TOXIC/Washable. We will play for as long as we have paint. Photographers will be at the event documenting everything and will later post all the pictures to the Facebook page. We are looking forward to seeing everyone out there and having a great time!
Here's a quick look at the week ahead:
WOMEN'S AND MEN'S TENNIS: Friday at 1:00 pm, Schreiner's teams travel to Mary Hardin-Baylor in our final road match of the season. Saturday will be the last home match for senior Lynne Collenback. She is the only senior on either team. Lynne has been a four-year fixture on the women's team and has been a strong contributor throughout her career. The teams will play their final home matches of the season on Saturday at 10:00 am vs. McMurry.
BASEBALL: has a three-game series with UMHB this weekend. Friday's single game is at 2:00 pm. Saturday, SU hosts a doubleheader at Noon and it will be the final weekend home game for SU's Roger Chavez, Justin Martinez, Eric Bukowski, David Hinebaugh, Brad Thomas, Jesse Paredes, Adley Canales, Dan Kuntzelman and Bill Tennant. All of these players have played major roles with SU Baseball over their careers. SU hosts Trinity at home next Tuesday which will actually be the final home contests for these senior players.
SOFTBALL: has a four game series with UMHB this weekend. Friday's doubleheader starts at 5:00 pm. Saturday's doubleheader begins at Noon and will be Senior Day for Schreiner's Ashly Bouthot and Vanessa Vazquez. Ashly has been a four-year starter and Vanessa has been a starter from the day she transferred to Kerrville.
WOMEN'S AND MEN'S GOLF: both Schreiner teams qualified for the ASC Championship tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Lufkin, TX. The women are seeded #3 and the men are seeded #4. These will likely be the final tournaments for SU seniors Sarah Stillwell and Simone Date.
