Mountaineer Update

from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
November 20, 2012

Basketball season is underway and both Schreiner teams are off to winning starts. For those of you around campus today, both Mountaineer teams have their HOME OPENERS tonight at the Edington Center. Admission is free so come on out and support the maroon and white.

Information on the games already played, all on the road, are still not complete (the fault is not ours!). I will present what I can below:

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – for the first time in at least 14 years, Schreiner is off to a 2-0 start as SU posted two lopsided road wins last week. The Mountaineers crushed Southwestern Adventist, 90-38, and Dallas Christian, 66-36. Neither home team kept stats but Coach Matt Wallis' stingy defense is holding opponents to just 37 points per game.

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Schreiner went on the road and defeated NAIA Huston-Tillotson, 79-75. It was a two point game with 10 seconds remaining when junior A.J. Myers went to the foul line and hit both free throws to seal the victory. Sophomore transfer Taylor Finley scored 14 points and had seven rebounds, while junior Ethan Catalani had 13 points and eight rebounds. Myers scored 10 points and freshman Brandon Fields had seven points and five rebounds.

Upcoming schedule for the next week or so:
