Classes are over and finals are set to begin. Our Schreiner Basketball teams step
away from competition over the next week to focus on exams. While the rest of campus
will enjoy time away, the players will be on campus and getting ready for a series
of games over the coming few weeks.
Here’s a quick recap of last week’s action:
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: defeated NAIA (scholarship) Huston-Tillotson in Austin on Monday and dropped their home opener vs. Howard Payne on Saturday. In Monday’s win, SU dominated the middle portion of the game and held a 22-point lead at 66-44 on the way to the win. Sophomore Kelsie Jackson led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Olivia Lott and junior Lindsey Peterson each scored 13 points and combined for 12 rebounds while senior Bailey Harris added 12 points and four assists. In the tough loss to HPU, the Mountaineers had three chances in the closing seconds to either tie the game or take the lead but came up short. Peterson scored 21 points to go with seven rebounds, and Lott had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Peterson currently leads the SCAC in scoring at 17.8 ppg. Lott is fifth in the league in rebounding at 8.3.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: SU went 1-1 at the Crowne Plaza Classic in Memphis last weekend. Schreiner posted a comfortable win over Hendrix and lost a nailbiter to host Rhodes.
