First, congratulations to junior Garner Burford of the Schreiner men’s soccer team
for earning All-SCAC honors this fall. For more information on Garner, please go
to the Athletics website (http://athletics.schreiner.edu). Now that our fall sports
have finished their seasons, our SU basketball teams take center stage.
The home opener for the men’s team is Wednesday at 6:30 pm at Edington Center vs. #5-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor. We are shooting for a big crowd and the first 300 fans at the game will get a “White Out” t-shirt. There will be a pregame tailgate at Edington in the parking area before the game. That starts at 5:30 pm and is sponsored by SAB. The game is free so take advantage of the festivities while supporting your Mountaineers!
Here’s a quick recap from last week:
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: lost at Concordia-TX, 70-63, beat Dallas Christian, 68-57. Junior Lindsey Peterson is off to a strong start this season, averaging nearly 20 points per game. She had eight rebounds in the win over DCC on Saturday. Senior Bailey Harris is averaging just over 15 points. Sophomore Kelsie Jackson had 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the loss at CTX. Freshman Olivia Lott scored 14 points to go with six rebounds and three steals in the win over DCC.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: lost a pair of tough games in Washington state this past weekend. Lost against Pacific Lutheran on a three-pointer at the buzzer, 76-75, and lost to host Puget Sound, 68-65. Schreiner had a three point lead with 10 seconds to play only to give up a three point play. With the score tied with PLU, senior AJ Myres hit two free throws with three second left to reclaim the lead only to have it ripped away at the buzzer. Against UPS, SU played great defensive basketball in the first half and had a 10-point lead, but the Loggers had their way in the second half to rally for the win. Myres and junior Steve Guerrero are each averaging 21 points per game so far this season. Sophomore Christian Pena is next at 7 points per contest.
