We know that most of the campus will be enjoying the holiday break, and we wish everyone
best Thanksgiving wishes for a safe time with family and friends. If you are in town
on Saturday, we invite you to come to Edington Center for your first 2013 glimpse
of Schreiner Women’s Basketball as the Mountaineers host a potent Howard Payne squad
at 3:00 pm.
Here’s a quick look back at last week’s activities:
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: won at Hardin-Simmons, 63-54, last night and lost at NAIA (scholarship) St. Thomas, 66-54 on Friday. In yesterday’s win, sophomore Kelsie Jackson had 18 points and seven rebounds while junior Lindsey Peterson contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Senior Bailey Harris had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists while freshman Olivia Lott added nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman Sabriyahh Fennell chipped in eight points and six rebounds. In the loss at UST, Peterson (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Lott (11 points, 14 rebounds) each had double-doubles.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: won at Hardin-Simmons, 73-72, and lost to #5 UMHB, 73-58. In the win at HSU, junior Steve Guerrero led the way with 26 points, five rebounds and three assists. Senior AJ Myres scored 19 points to go with five rebounds. SU built up a sizeable lead in the first half and maintained the lead through the middle of the second half. The Cowboys rallied to take a brief lead but the Mountaineers got back on top and held on for the win. In the loss vs. UMHB, Myres scored 17 points. Junior Hollis Robinson and freshman Maverick Harris each added seven points and freshman Phillip Kee had eight rebounds in 11 minutes of play.
