from Ron Macosko, Athletic Director
November 11, 2015
Both of our soccer teams were defeated in the semifinals of the SCAC Tournament last weekend but both finished the season very well. For our women’s team, it was a record-setting year across the board so post-season awards should be coming in for several members in the coming days. Congratulations to sophomore Delaney Morrow and freshmen Kyli Harvey of the women’s team as well as senior Cody Hollingshead of the men’s for being named All-SCAC Tournament.
The fall is now officially completed and we now turn our attention to Schreiner Basketball. Our women’s team starts things off with a pair of road games at Hardin-Simmons (Friday) and at UT-Dallas (Saturday). Both teams are picked at or near the top of the ASC in preseason polls so the ladies will be challenged. Their home opener is next Tuesday against Sul Ross State. The men open at home against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the Event Center before going to Incarnate Word for an exhibition on Monday. More info on those games in the schedule below.
Here’s a quick recap of last week’s action:
MEN’S SOCCER: won, 1-0, in double overtime in the SCAC quarterfinals over #3 seed University of Dallas. The Mountaineers controlled the contest but it took a header from Cody Hollingshead late in the second OT off a ball by sophomore Rene Pena to end the contest. SU then was beaten by host (and 23rd-ranked) Colorado College, 6-0, in the semifinals.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: fell to Texas Lutheran, 1-0, in the semifinals of the SCAC Tournament. SU controlled the action and dominated the first half but an early second half penalty kick was awarded to TLU and that was the difference. Sophomore Megan Morant recorded five saves in goal. The Mountaineers set school records for overall and conference wins as well as winning percentage in both categories and completely rewrote the defensive record book.
Here’s the schedule for the week ahead:
