Amy Meyer took the Head Coach position for Schreiner University softball on Wednesday,
October 22, 2014. This will be her third season as head coach of the Mountaineers
(second full season). In her first season as head coach, Meyer led the Mountaineers
to a third place finish at the SCAC tournament along with four players earning conference
honors. Prior to SU she served as assistant softball coach at Northeast Texas Community
College during the spring of 2014 and was also the graduate assistant coach at her
alma mater, Hardin-Simmons University from August, 2012 through December, 2013. She
has been an assistant coach with multiple Texas select ball programs and currently
instructs at softball camps along with private lessons.
Meyer was a four-year contender on the HSU Cowgirl program where her team won the American Southwest Conference West Division Title. Over the course of her career Meyer led categories in runs scored, triples, walks, stolen bases, sacrifice flies, double plays, and assists. She also earned multiple accolades including First Team All-ASC, Second Team All-ASC, All-ASC honorable mention, ASC All-Tournament Team, and Academic All-ASC.
Director of Athletics Ron Macosko on the move: "This... opening creates a unique opportunity for a young coach whom I strongly believe has great potential as a leader. In her short time on our staff, Coach Meyer has already made a very positive impression with our players. She is energetic, passionate and very much committed to the success of the program - but more importantly - to her student-athletes. I think that she will be a great fit with our culture and our philosophies on building a successful program. She embodied that type of student-athlete when in her undergraduate career and we know that she will promote those same values of academic success, personal growth as well as continuing to build a winning program here at Schreiner. We are looking forward to watching her grow and prosper in this profession."
Meyer has a Masters in Kinesiology, Sports and Recreation from HSU and an undergraduate degree in Sports Fitness and Leisure Studies from the same school. She earned President's List twice during her playing career for the Cowgirls.
Coach Meyer is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). She currently resides in Boerne, TX.
