Errors Costly
to SU as TLU Sweeps Doubleheader
Texas
Lutheran picked up a doubleheader sweep over
Schreiner - largely in part because of nine SU
errors. In game one, the Mountaineers
(3-12, 1-3 in ASC) grabbed the early 2-0 lead on
sophomore Lyndsie Travis' two-run homer in the
first inning. That was still the score in
the top of the fourth, but TLU scored three
unearned runs to take a 3-2 lead. Despite
SU again out-hitting Texas Lutheran (7-7, 3-1 in
ASC), Schreiner couldn't tie the score and the
lead and score would stand up. Sophomore
Kelsey Hanson was the hard-luck loser, allowing
no earned runs and only four hits in seven
innings of work.
In the second game, Schreiner again broke on top
with a run in the first. In the third
inning, TLU took a lead it wouldn't give up by
scoring three runs (two unearned). TLU
added four more runs in the fourth and SU
couldn't recover as the Bulldogs cruised to an
11-3 win. Only four of the 11 runs were
earned.
Freshman Lindsay Rutkowski, along with Travis,
paced the Mountaineer offense in the first game,
going three-for-three. In the second game,
sophomores Tara Gonzales and Candi Witte each
had two hits. Junior Megan Eichman scored
all three SU runs. |
