Softball Pounds
MLU, 8-0, Gains Split
Lyndsie Travis
and the Schreiner defense got out of a
bases-loaded jam in the first inning unscathed
and quickly posted four runs in their half of
the inning en route to an 8-0 win and
doubleheader split with Midland Lutheran (8-10).
Travis walked two batters and hit another to
load the bases with no one out, but got MLU to
hit three straight ground outs to end the
threat. In the bottom of the first, SU
(4-17) took advantage of walks, an RBI single by
Candi Witte and
Tara Gonzales'
steal of home to jump ahead, 4-0. In the
second, SU added two more runs on a triple by
Sarah Trevino,
an RBI double by
Megan Eichman
and an RBI single by
Lindsay Rutkowski.
Travis threw six shutout innings, allowing only
three hits and struck out four and the
Mountaineers out hit Midland Lutheran, 9-3.
In the nightcap, the game was scoreless going
into the top of the fourth but MLU scored twice
and gain the edge. Although Schreiner
again out hit MLU, this time 6-4, five SU errors
proved costly in the loss.
