Gonzales
Pitches Schreiner to Doubleheader Sweep
Schreiner
Softball bounced back from losing a doubleheader
on Friday with a sweep of their own on Saturday.
The Mountaineers won the first game, 6-5, in the
bottom of the seventh inning and then shutout
visiting Concordia-Austin, 5-0, in the second
game.
Tara Gonzales
earned both wins by going the distance in each.
Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the third inning
but SU bounced back with three runs in their
half of the inning. The first run came off
the bat of
Lyndsie Travis
as she hit a solo home run - her second in two
days. SU scored single runs in the fourth
and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the
top of the seventh. Concordia-Austin
(2-18, 2-10 in ASC) scored three times in the
seventh to tie the game. SU loaded the
bases in the bottom of the inning and scored the
winning run on a passed ball to earn the 6-5
win.
Megan Eichman
was 3-for-4 and
Candi Witte
added two hits for SU.
In the second
game, Gonzales scattered nine hits en route to
the shutout. The Mountaineers (5-18, 3-9
in ASC) scored three runs in the third inning -
the big hit being a two-run double by
Sarah Trevino.
Travis added an RBI single later in the inning.
That was more than enough offensive support for
Gonzales and the SU defense. Amanda
Martinez and Travis paced the offense with two
hits each. |
