SU Rallies for
Two in Ninth for 7-6 Win over UMHB
Candi Witte's
two-out single drove in pinch-runner
Cynthia Valadez
and was the winning run in Schreiner's
come-from-behind, extra inning victory over Mary
Hardin-Baylor. The win earned the
Mountaineers a split of the doubleheader as UMHB
won the first game, 10-1.
In the second game, SU (7-22, 4-12 in ASC) took
a 2-0 lead into the third and still held a 2-1
advantage in the fourth before the Crusaders
(14-10, 10-4 in ASC) scored four times to take a
5-2 lead. The Mountaineers would not quit.
Down to their final three outs, Schreiner scored
three times to tie the game and force extra
innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning, UMHB got an
unearned run in the top of the ninth to take the
lead. In their half, SU's
Tara Gonzales
hit a one-out double. With two outs,
Lyndsie Travis
singled to drive in Gonzales and re-tie the
score. Travis moved up to second on the
throw to the plate. Valadez came in to run
for Travis and that set the stage for Witte's
game-winning hit. Gonzales went all nine
innings to pick up the victory.
Megan Eichman
had three hits in the doubleheader to pace SU.
Gonzales, Travis and
Sherysse Machalek
each had two. |
