Gonzales, Toman
Headline Seven All-ASC Winners
Juniors
Tara Gonzales and Patsy Toman each earned Second
Team All-ASC West and were joined by five
teammates on the all-conference award list.
Senior Megan Eichman, juniors Sarah Trevino and
Autumn Vara, sophomore Lindsay Rutkowski and
freshman Marla Jendrusch each earned honorable
mention All-ASC West for the 2008 season.
Toman started the season as SU's #2 starter but
ended up being the staff workhorse when freshman
Becca Hay was lost for the season just 1/4 of
the way in with a broken arm. Toman kept
her team in virtually every game and pitched
almost every inning for the remaining 3/4 of the
season. She was second in the American
Southwest Conference in both innings pitched
(205) and games started (33) and was seventh in
wins with 13.
Gonzales batted .310 and was second on the team
and third in RBI. Eichman, the team's only
senior, led the team in runs, hits and stolen
bases and second in batting average (.356) and
RBI. Trevino led Schreiner in home runs
(7) and RBI (29) and batted just under .300.
Vara had two home runs and batted .284 while
Rutkowski, a slap-hitter, batted .280.
Jendrusch took over as starting catcher from the
first game and solidified the team defensively.
She also was solid at the plate, batting .352
and was second on the team in hits and RBI. |
