Records Fall at
Schreiner University as Mountaineer
Softball Sweeps SRSU
The Mountaineer Softball team set a school
record for most wins in a single season today
(23) as
they went on the road to defeat Sul Ross 10-2 in
the first game and 13-5 in the second half of
the doubleheader giving the Mountaineers the
four-game sweep.
The Mountaineers were clearly the stronger
offensive team this weekend giving the Lady
Lobos much more than they could handle.
Sul Ross scored the first runs for either team
in the bottom of the first. Kassie Fuller’s
two-run homer to left field scored Candice
Johnson giving Sully a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Mountaineers then unloaded ten runs
over the third and fourth innings while shutting
out the home team’s offensive effort to take the
10-2 win. Marla Jendrusch homered to left
center bringing in 4 RBIs in the third inning
and in the fourth inning; Marla took another one
deep over the fence to knock in 2 RBIs.
Schreiner plated six runs over the first two
innings of Saturday’s second round. The
Mountaineers out hit the Lady Lobos by a 15-10
spread while both teams combined for nine
errors.
Marla Jendrusch started the first inning of the
second game just as hot as she was in the first
by hitting a home run deep over the left center
fence to bring in 3 runs.
Autumn Vara added to the homerun derby by
knocking one of her own over the fence to lead
off the second inning and the Mountaineers never
looked back.
Sul Ross would touch the plate in the bottom of
the fifth as Fuller scored off a single by De
Lao.
The game ended on an unassisted put out by
Lyndsie Travis at first base as the Lady
Mountaineers posted the 13-5 win.
The Mountaineers climb to 23-12 overall and 12-8
in ASC Conference play. The Lady Mountaineers
will host TLU next weekend to close out the
regular season.
