SCHREINER ROLLS TO ROAD
WIN TO MOVE TO 2-1 IN ASC;
BARRON NAMED ASC DEFENSIVE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(9/20/06)
The youthful SU Volleyball
team won at
Concordia-Austin, 3-1, and
equaled its match win total
from all of last year in
just its first three ASC
contests. Game #1 was
a back-and-forth affair.
At 21-all, the Mountaineers
ran off 5 straight points
and went on to win, 30-24.
In the second game, SU
temporarily lost some of its
aggressiveness and allowed
CUA to escape with a 33-31
win. In games three
and four, Schreiner
controlled the tempo and
pace and took command of the
match and decided the
outcome with 30-21 and 30-19
game wins.
Freshman Tiffany Miller
again led the hitting
statistics with 18 kills.
Junior Kassie Barlow's .367
attack percentage led all
Mountaineers.
Sophomore setter Julie Peddy
added 43 assists and was
second on the team with 17
digs to senior Whitney
Barron's 18.
Barron also received
additional good news.
She was selected as the
American Southwest
Conference Volleyball
Defensive Player of the Week
for September 11-18.
In SU's ASC opener, Barron's
19 digs helped the
Mountaineers rally from a
18-28 deficit in game one to
defeat HPU, 32-30. SU
then went on to win the home
match in four games.
She also added 3 service
aces vs. the Yellow Jackets.
