Volleyball Moves into Third
in ASC West with 3-1 Win
(9/28/06)
Schreiner started slowly,
but was able to rally in
games one and two and post
key wins in each game.
In the opener, SU fell
behind 16-11, but outscored
Sul Ross State 19-8 the rest
of the way to post a 30-24
win. Game two saw the
Mountaineers again fall
behind and again rally.
SU was able to gain a 30-25
win and take a 2-0 lead in
the contest between the two
teams likely to battle for
third place in the ASC West
Division.
In game three, Sul Ross
State would not let another
early lead get away.
This time, it was the Lady
Lobos who won the big points
down the stretch to post a
30-25 win which narrowed
SU's game lead to 2-1.
In game four, the
Mountaineers finally got the
fast start and raced to a
9-1 edge. The Lady
Lobos quickly mounted their
own rally and tied the score
at 11 each. The lead
changed hands several times
but Schreiner got the
decisive points to post a
30-26 game win and 3-1 match
win.
Schreiner improves to 4-3 in
the ASC West, in a tie with
Sul Ross State (3-2) but SU
temporarily has the
head-to-head edge.
Schreiner faces a long run
of road contests with the
regular-season finale at Sul
Ross on October 28th that
could decide the final
playoff spot. Junior
Kassie Barlow and freshman
Tiffany Miller each had 17
kills, while sophomore
Julie Peddy contributed 51 assists
and senior
Whitney Barron
led a balanced defensive
effort with 17 digs while
Barlow had 16 and Peddy and
sophomore
Malorie Westerholm
added 14 each. |
