Mountaineers Finally at Full
Power, Win 3-1 at HPU
(10/11/06)
It took seven weeks but the
Mountaineers finally had
most of their pieces in
place. It happened at
a good time in the season as
Schreiner traveled to Howard
Payne and earned a solid 3-1
road victory. With the
win, SU improves to 6-6 in
the ASC and continues to
position itself for a
possible spot in the
postseason tournament.
Schreiner had a fight on its
hands in game one.
Howard Payne was riding a
high from its big upset win
over previously top-ranked
TLU last week and made
things tough for the
Mountaineers early on.
Still, it was Schreiner who
earned the big points down
the stretch and the 30-28
opening game win. In
game two, SU again
prevailed, 30-23. In
game three, HPU was able to
edge the Mountaineers,
30-26, but SU bounced back
quickly in game four with a
convincing 30-20 game and
match win. SU had an
impressive .417 attack
percentage in the deciding
game.
Tiffany Miller
and
Kaycee
Westberry were
the offensive leaders with
22 and 16 kills
respectively.
Danielle Gaitan
returned after a long injury
layoff and contributed 8
kills.
Julie
Peddy had 54
assists and
Whitney Barron
(22 digs) and
Malorie Westerholm
(17 digs) paced the defense.
