VB ROLLS IN HOME OPENER
TO EVEN ASC RECORD
(9/13/06)
Schreiner Volleyball finally
played a home match and the
result and prospects for the
season suddenly look quite
promising. The
Mountaineers rallied in the
opening game from a 21-28
deficit to win 32-30 and
used the emotion from the
large, boisterous home crowd
to defeat Howard Payne in
four games (32-30, 18-30,
30-27, 30-19). The win
evens Schreiner's ASC record
at 1-1.
Freshman Tiffany Miller, as
she has so far in her
collegiate career, again led
the Mountaineers in kills
with 16. She was
followed closely by freshman
Kaycee Westberry with 14 and
junior Kassie Barlow with
12. Barlow, due to the
injury to Xandria White, is
forced to play out of her
normal position which makes
her contributions more
impressive.
Sophomore setter Julie Peddy
led the team in assists with
39. Senior libero
Whitney Barron led the
defensive stats with 19 digs
followed by freshman
Brittany Alvillar with 9.
The Mountaineers struggled
in game two to even the
match with HPU, and found
themselves in a battle in
the key third game.
Despite relying on 4
freshmen and 3 sophomore
extensively, it was the
youthful Mountaineers who
won the key points to pull
out the third game win.
In the fourth game, SU took
control early and pulled
away to seal the victory. |
