SU Volleyball Reaches Out

(8/25/07)  This past Saturday the Schreiner Women's Volleyball team took a morning off from their pre-season preparations in order to participate in the Angel Foods Ministry program at the First Christian Church of Kerrville, TX.  Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.  Food is delivered in bulk to regional distribution centers, where it is packed into boxes and picked up by the program's beneficiaries.  The volleyball team spent the morning unloading groceries and helping to distribute them.

"The program is a great chance for us to reach out to the Hill Country community," said head coach John Wyatt Greenlee.  "Our team, our athletic department, and our University as a whole get such great support from everyone that we are always glad for opportunities to give back."

"It's sometimes hard to get college kids out of bed at 7:00 am," Greenlee went on, "and to see our team so enthusiastic and ready to help out this morning was great."

The Kerrville branch of Angel Foods served in excess of 300 families and individuals on Saturday, an almost 300% increase on previous months.
