White Powers Volleyball to a
3-1 Win and Split
Xandria
White returned to action
after missing nearly two
years of action due to
injuries and powered
Schreiner to a 3-1 win over
the University of Dallas.
Earlier in the day, the
Mountaineers dropped a tough
3-2 decision to #14-ranked
Austin College.
Schreiner's match with
Austin College was tied 2-2
going into the deciding
game. SU took an 8-7
lead, but then had three
consecutive errors which
gave Austin the edge it
needed to gain the win.
In the afternoon match,
Schreiner split its two
games, winning the opener
(30-25) and getting edged in
the second (28-30). In
game 3, SU was able to
prevail, 30-26, and then
also had the upper hand in
game 4 for a 30-25 win to
secure the match.
White, a junior, had a total
of 39 kills in the two
matches - including 22 in
the win over Dallas.
In 2005, she injured her
knee early in the season and
gained a medical hardship
waiver. Last fall, in
the first game of her first
match of the year, she
injured her ankle when she
came down on the foot of an
opposing player and again
lost a season of
competition.
Junior Malorie Westerholm,
filling in for injured
setter Julie Peddy, had 86
assists in the two matches.
Sophomore Brittany Alvillar
added 35 digs on the day.
Senior Kassie Barlow was
second on the SU team in
kills in the UD match with
9. Tiffany Miller had
two block solos and 2
assists.
Against the 14-ranked Austin
team, White was equally
impressive leading the
defense with 7 blocks -
including three solo blocks. |
