Schreiner Rallies for 3-1
Win over HPU
Schreiner bounced back from
a Howard Payne rally in game
three with one of its best
games of the year to post a
3-1 win over the visitors.
The Mountaineers (5-7, 2-4
in ASC) did what they have
done through a good part of
the season to date.
They showed flashes of very
solid, athletic play and
then periods of play that
allowed the opponent to
rally. This was
again the case in games 1
through 3. Schreiner
started well to take leads
ranging up to 5 points only
to see Howard Payne come
back. In games one and
two, Schreiner then answered
with a rally of its own to
post wins in each by the
count of 30-23 and 30-25.
In game three, there was no
answering Schreiner rally so
the two teams went down to
the wire and then beyond.
HPU eventually won the game,
35-33.
Game four saw Howard Payne
carry the momentum over from
the third game win and took
an early lead. Showing
strength of character and a
resolve to persevere,
Schreiner rallied on strong
serving by Marissa Stearns
and Julie Peddy.
Eventually the power game of
SU, led by Tiffany Miller
(23 kills, four blocks) and
Xandria White (18 kills, 6
blocks) took over. For
the match, Schreiner
dominated at the net with a
total of 10 team blocks to
only 2 for the visitors.
The Mountaineer also had 20
more kills on a similar
number of errors.
Malorie Westerholm had 53
assists while Brittany
Alvillar added 26 digs. |
