SU Starts Slow but Finishes
Well vs. Sul Ross
It took
a game for the Schreiner
Volleyball team to get
untracked in a 3-1 win over
visiting Sul Ross State.
The Mountaineers allowed the
Lady Lobos (2-15, 1-11 in
ASC) to control the match
early. SU stayed close
but the game ultimately went
to the vistors, 30-28.
In game two, Schreiner
started asserting its
significant size and power
advantage. Still, the
pesky Lady Lobos only
trailed 17-14 nearly halfway
through the game. SU
went on a 11-4 run and
looked to have the game well
in hand, but again, SRS came
back. Sul Ross' 9-1
run made it 28-27 but
Schreiner earned the final
two points and evened the
match.
In game three, SU again
allowed Sul Ross State to
hang around. With the
score at 9-9, the
Mountaineers (8-9, 5-5 in
ASC) went on a 17-5 run and
kept up the momentum for a
30-21 win.
In the final game, Schreiner
took an early lead and began
pulling away to a
comfortable 30-18 win.
SU displayed more of its
power game than in recent
memory and dominated both
the offensive and defensive
stats. Sophomore
Tiffany Miller led the way
with 20 kills to only four
errors. She also had
four blocks. Junior
Xandria White had 16 kills
(7 errors) and three blocks.
Sophomore Brittany Alvillar
added 19 digs to lead all
Mountaineers while junior
Malorie Westerhorm dished
out 47 assists. |
