Volleyball Splits Final
Weekend Matches
The Schreiner Volleyball
team played probably its
best match of the season in
routing visiting McMurry,
3-0, in the season finale.
The win offset a equally
lopsided loss to ASC West
Division champion,
Hardin-Simmons, 0-3, the day
before.
Schreiner battled through a
hard-fought first game with
McMurry, had a slim lead
late in the game and carried
it through for a 30-27 win.
SU has had a tough time
closing out games this
season so the result was a
very good start for the
match. The
Mountaineers started
exerting themselves early in
the second game and built a
10-point lead. They
maintained the lead
throughout. Only a
late mini-run by the
visitors chipped into the
lead, but Schreiner still
took game two, 30-23.
Game three was even less
competitive and Schreiner
cruised, 30-21.
McMurry finished as the ASC
West Division #3 ranked team
and had already qualified
for the ASC Tournament which
begins next week.
Hardin-Simmons, losers of
only one ASC match all year,
still had its hands full
with the Mountaineers.
The won comfortably, 30-23,
in the first game, but
needed to go overtime to win
game #2, 31-29, and then
also managed a slight 30-27
win in game three.
Schreiner finished its
season at 11-14 overall and
8-10 in the ASC, good for
5th place. The 11 wins
matched last season's
overall total, but the team
only could manage 8 wins
this year, compared to 10
last fall. Schreiner
has no seniors on its
roster. |
