his team lose four matches at the prestigious
Augsburg Invitational
The final day of
the Augsburg Invitational was better for
Schreiner Volleyball but the end result was the
same. Schreiner fell to #19 Wisconsin-Eau
Claire in the morning session, 3-0, and then
lost a heartbreaker to Wisconsin-Superior, 3-2,
in the championship round.
In the match vs. Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the
Mountaineers put an immediate scare into the
nationally-ranked foe. SU (2-4) was edged
25-23 in the first game. UWEC rebounded to
had the travel weary Mountaineers a loss the two
subsequent games by 25-14 and 25-17 scores.
Junior Tiffany Miller led the attack with seven
kills followed by Xandria White with six.
Miller still had a solid attack percentage of
.308 in the match. Junior Brittany
Alvillar had 14 digs and senior Marissa Stearns
13, while senior Malorie Westerholm led the team
with 13 assists.
In the final match, Schreiner fell behind two
games to none to Wisconsin-Superior. SU
lost 25-22 and 25-19 and could have easily given
up. Instead, the Mountaineers rallied by
winning the next two games by 25-21 and 25-18
counts. The deciding game came right down
to the end, but SU was edged out 15-13 in game
five.
Xandria White had a huge match, pounding 19
kills. Junior Kaycee Westberry had her
best match of the season with 12 kills and
Miller added 11. Freshman Audra Burnap
took assist honors with 31 and Alvillar was
again the leader in digs with 21.
Schreiner now enters conference play with a
match at Sul Ross State on Tuesday before
heading to another tournament this weekend at
Southwestern. |
