Rallies for 3-2 Road Win

For two games,
Schreiner was in control of its match with
visiting Concordia-Texas. As happened on
Saturday in its match with visiting Sul Ross
State, SU couldn't finish off the visitors in
three. This time, it came back to haunt SU
as Concordia-Texas took advantage and climbed
back into the match. After a thrilling
game four which came right down to the end, CTX
took control early in game 5 - aided by four SU
service errors - and went on to the
come-from-behind 3-2 road win.
The Mountaineers (5-7, 2-2 in ASC) started well,
taking game one and game two by 25-20 and 25-15
scores. In game three, Concordia (5-7, 1-3
in ASC) cut the deficit in half with a 25-20 win
of its own. Game four was the best of the
night. Both teams held slight leads but
neither could pull away. Eventually, CTX
would win 25-23, forcing a fifth game.
The fifth game started sloppily for the home
team as those four early serving errors gave the
visitors a lead and confidence. The
Tornados never let the lead slip away and won
15-9 to take the match.
Tiffany Miller had 15 kills to lead SU while
Caitlin Gayle had 13. Gayle edged Miller
in attack percentage .321 to .306. Malorie
Westerholm had 39 assists and 15 digs and
Brittany Alvillar had 18 digs. |
