Schreiner Volleyball got some payback with a 3-1
road win at Concordia-Texas. The win
improved Schreiner's record to 10-10 overall and
7-5 in the ASC which moved the Mountaineers back
into a virtual tie for the third and final spot
in the ASC postseason tournament. SU has
six matches remaining.
SU was looking to redeem itself for its lowest
performance of the year. Back on September
23rd, Schreiner held a 2-0 lead at Edington
Center against the same Concordia (7-14, 3-9 in
ASC) team. The Mountaineers lost their
focus and Concordia took full advantage, winning
the final three games for a disastrous loss for
SU. Last night, Concordia turned the
tables by getting the early lead, winning game
one, 25-17.
From that point
on, Schreiner - and particularly senior Xandria
White - took over. White, who played
easily her best match since returning from a
knee injury, pounded 13 kills with only one
error (.688 attack percentage) and led SU to an
easy 25-12 win in game two. Then the
Mountaineers put up back-to-back 25-22 wins in
both games three and four to record the
important win.
Caitlin Gayle (9 kills) and Tiffany Miller (7
kills) were solid as usual at the net.
Junior Kaycee Westberry is continuing to make an
big impact and provided 8 kills. Brittany
Alvillar had 17 digs to lead the defense and SU
was easily the more imposing team at the net
with 11 team blocks to 4 for CTX. Malorie
Westerholm had 33 assists.
The Mountaineers travel to Belton this weekend
for the second and final ASC Crossover
Tournament. SU will face UT-Dallas,
UT-Tyler and host Mary Hardin-Baylor in just over 24
hours. |
