Phillip White
will begin his first season as Schreiner's head
Volleyball coach this fall. White coached
at the University of Southern California in
2007. He was an
assistant to both Bill Ferguson, head men’s
volleyball coach and Mick Haley, head women’s
volleyball coach at Southern Cal. Ferguson is
one of the nation’s rising young coaching stars
and offered this upon hearing the news of
White’s hiring at Schreiner. "Schreiner
University hit a homerun with Coach Phillip
White! I have been fortunate to be Phillip's
coach at the junior level, and coached with him
at the junior and collegiate levels. I
have never worked with someone who loves the
game of volleyball more than Phillip White. His
love for the game shows in his work. Our
players and staff at USC greatly enjoyed his
enthusiasm and respect his dedication to his job
and knowledge of the game. He made us better in
every way. The Trojan volleyball family is so
proud of Coach White and we wish him and
Schreiner University Volleyball the best of
luck."
Haley, a former head coach at the University of
Texas, is one of the most successful and
recognized women’s coaches in college and
international volleyball. Haley’s teams have
won four national championships (including two
at UT) and he was head coach for the U.S.
Women’s Volleyball team at the 2000 Olympics in
Sydney, Australia.
White was an NCAA Division I player at Long
Beach State, from which he graduated with a
degree in communication studies. He has coached
elite-level players at both the Southern
California Volleyball Club and the Long Beach
Volleyball Club, and also has been head coach
for high school teams in California.
